Ivorian footballer Serge Aurier was on Monday sentenced to two months in jail for elbowing a police officer. The Paris St-Germain (PSG) player was also slapped with a $674 fine over the incident which happened at a Paris nightclub some 5 months ago.
The defender had been stopped by the officer to take a breath test after leaving the club.
The 23-year old will however not go to prison pending an appeal making eligible to play for his team, including for the Champions League game on Wednesday with the Bulgarian team -Ludogorets.
The sentence is also “convertible”, meaning he could do community service rather than serve the actual jail term.
This is the second time Aurier gets himself in hot water in less than a year, he was suspended earlier this year over his comments about the then-PSG coach Laurent Blanc.
He has played for PSG five times this season, and provided the assist for Edinson Cavani’s goal against Arsenal in the Champions League two weeks ago.
